SOUNDPROOFING WINDOWS

If you have soundproof windows, you could be experiencing harmful off-gassing that can cause problems in your home and and with your health. Problems and delays with replacing and repairing windows have persisted, and we are working hard to hold officials accountable so residents can finally get the help they need to ensure their homes are safe.

If you need help with your soundproof windows, read more below on how to start the process for replacement or repairs before the city’s deadline.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

Since 1996, the Chicago Department of Aviation’s Residential Sound Insulation Program (RSIP) has installed soundproof windows for over 20,000 homes around the vicinities of both Midway and O’Hare Airports, but many windows were found to be faulty with both mechanical and chemical issues, including windows emitting foul-smelling gas.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

If you have noticed odors emitting from your RSIP-installed windows or doors, you must request an odor inspection by February 21, 2022, by contacting the Program Office at customerservice@cmcpartners-rsip.com or (773) 838-5632. The Program Office will coordinate with you to schedule an odor inspection. If an odor is confirmed, your home is eligible to receive replacement windows and doors.

For more information or if you have additional questions, call our office at (773) 581-8000.

We’re working to fix lengthy delays and problems:

Rep. Guerrero-Cuellar passed legislation in the General Assemble to ensure that:

  • Homeowners will be compensated who have personally paid for and replaced the soundproof windows.

  • The number of homes that can have their windows repaired or replaced to be increased from 225 per year (a number CDA has provided) to a minimum of 750 per year.

  • Homeowners with windows that have mechanical issues can qualify to receive repairs.

  • Homeowners who opted for screens on their windows after the removal of faulty windows aren’t prevented from being disqualified from future compensation as they are currently disqualified per CDA’s policy.

  • Funding for RSIP is increased to repair or replace the windows with reported mechanical and odorous issues.
